II Ides of March

One of the most difficult adjustments I have had to make since coming to Kauai is shifting out of 'vacation' mindset. When you are on vacation you really have no desire to vacuum, wash bathrooms, or clean windows. However you do have a desire to drink rum early in the afternoon. Of course, we are not on vacation and I have to convince myself to do the contrary of both desires. Today was house cleaning day, and while we were at it we cleaned the youngest sprog - Max. There is some sort of mysterious physical force of attraction, not yet described mathematically, where naked clean children extracted from the bath are immediately drawn to hide under the covers of the nearest made bed.

This probably looks to you as another ocean picture but its not. The strong winds are whipping across the ocean creating these numerous white foam scars across its surface - whitecaps we called them when I was kid living on the lake. Here the white caps are huge. Although it was a treacherous day to be trimming coconut trees, the condo grounds must be maintained. I was stunned by the bored indifference these guys exhibited as they trimmed the trees while 30 mph winds whipped the branches about. Posted by Hello

Last night I went to Sea Lodge beach, a small spit of a beach, to try my new fishing pole. The large 10'-15' waves crashed on the reef offshore and their huge battered remains smashed on shore ultimately driving me away. As I left, I realized the sunset from this spot is quite spectacular. I returned tonight to photograph it but, of course, it was not the same. Beautiful yes, but not as beautiful as the memory I hold in my mind's eye.

The winds are howling still tonight, 50 mph gusts sound like banshees swirling outside. It was difficult to get the children to fall asleep.Posted by Hello
