Hawaiian shaved ice is the treat here on the island. Of course everyone has the 'best shaved ice' on the island or so they say. Contrary to what you think, there is more to this than just scraping ice into a cup and pouring on top super-sugary syrup. The syrup bottles come in a variety of colors..err I mean 'flavors'... which are differentiated by their permanently-staining colors so bright they hurt your eyes when you look at them.[you can see the bottles line the wall] Posted by Hello

The major requirement for the proper construction of Hawaiian ice - a very sharp blade that shaves the ice so thin it is velvety smooth. Posted by Hello

The ice is then packed onto a cup. This gentleman runs the ice cream shop in Kapa'a and has his shaved ice stand on the sidewalk outside. On slow times he makes snow balls and pelts the cars stuck in traffic that frequently becomes snarled in this part of the town. Posted by Hello

One of these could feed our entire family but none of us can agree on the flavors so we compromise to two camps - for now....when Max develops an opinion the camps will split again I am sure. Posted by Hello

Danger lurks below...the syrup collects at the bottom of the cup and any spoonful can set you into a sugar shock....to dampen the effect you can get ice cream placed in the bottom - butter fat combined with high fructose corn syrup???....there is an intelligent designer! Posted by Hello

The mark of the beast.....all I can imagine is our intestinal tract glowing this bright red for a day or so. Posted by Hello
