Our first attempt to make Sushi and Sashimi

The critical process in making sushi is rice preparation. Here I am fanning the rice as Etel stirs in a rice vinegar and sugar glaze on the rice. I had to fan the rice for 10 minutes. As I got bored with the fanning, I became sloppy and ended up wacking Etel with the large plastic lid. Posted by Hello

The most challenging part of the process...slicing the roll without crushing it.  Posted by Hello

The fruits of our labor. Actually, another plate of sushi is still to come. On the sashimi the deep red is Ahi (tuna) and the pale orange is salmon.

I have to say, I appreciate the efforts of sushi makers now but I think our homemade was much better than any I have ever had in a restuarant because, I think, everything was as fresh as you can get. Well worth the effort.Posted by Hello

The evening light from our patio after a rainy day. We actually had 6 inches of rain in the last 24 hours. Posted by Hello
