Same place..15 hours apart

This is about 4 pm at Black Pot beach. The water is filled with beginner surfers all bobbing in the ocean awaiting the next great wave. The waves are not that great, but the view is always great. Mositure heavy clouds creep down from the mountains. Posted by Hello

I was 30 seconds late getting my kids to the bus stop this morning so I had to drive them to school. After dropping them off, I returned to the pier to photograph sunrise on Hanalei. This is the exact same spot where I took the picture above, just looking straight at the beach instead of down it. It is 8 am and I like the way the light looks on the underside of the clouds. This is the pier at Black Pot beach on the eastern most edge of Hanalei Bay. The name comes from the fact that years ago a pot of fish stew was often maintained on the beach for family and friends to feast while spending the day at the beach. Now it is a popular place for surf lessons. Posted by Hello

There is alot of rain up in the mountains as the warm moisture laden air from the tradewinds flows south and hits the high 5000+ ft. mountains in the center of the island. As the air rises up the mountains it cools, condenses and rains on the high elevations thereby filling the myriad of waterfalls that streak the mountainside. You are looking into the source of the Hanalei river (I think). Posted by Hello

This is the mouth of the Hanalei river that flows into the bay. The next day I returned here to take some more pictures and these cool logs were gone. It is easy to forget the power of the overnight tide and waves. You are looking west at sunset.  Posted by Hello
