I was 30 seconds late getting my kids to the bus stop this morning so I had to drive them to school. After dropping them off, I returned to the pier to photograph sunrise on Hanalei. This is the exact same spot where I took the picture above, just looking straight at the beach instead of down it. It is 8 am and I like the way the light looks on the underside of the clouds.
There is alot of rain up in the mountains as the warm moisture laden air from the tradewinds flows south and hits the high 5000+ ft. mountains in the center of the island. As the air rises up the mountains it cools, condenses and rains on the high elevations thereby filling the myriad of waterfalls that streak the mountainside. You are looking into the source of the Hanalei river (I think).
