Surveyed this fern marshy field for spiders. Did not find raptor but did find some cool jumping spiders (Salticidae) and crab spiders (Philodromidae).

This looks like a typical field, but when you step out there you find yourself walking on ferns and occasionally your legs pushes through the fern mass to hit mud, muck or a stream about 2' below. Posted by Hello

First survey

It was a overcast misty morning when I hiked the north leg of the Powerline trail to conduct my first spider survey. The Powerline trail is a service road (at times a washed out gulley) that runs alongside the high powerlines that connect the north side of the island with the south side.

See red line on the map. That is a good close approximation to the location of the 10.25 mile trail that runs North/South along a moderately high ridgeline.

I only hiked in about 3 miles to survey a moist habitat of ferns and other plants which I am in the process of learning their names.

Looking east from Powerline Trail. I attempted to hike into these skeletal forest remains (damage I think are from Hurricane 'Iwa in 1982), but learned quickly it was really a bog. Posted by Hello
