Visiting a new beach....Papa'a bay

In the distance is Papa'a bay. The producer of the movie 6 Days/7 Nights filmed here and then decided he liked it so much he purchased the 240 acres all around the bay, named the compound Tara and prevented the traditional public access to the beach. Now the only way to get to the bay is to climb over these hot, pointy lava rocks for over 1,000 ft of shore to get to the beach.Posted by Hello

After scrambling over the hot lava rocks for 20 minutes we came to Papa beach. It is a beautiful beach but it is difficult to get to so it is hard to justify making the effort when the island has many other beautiful beaches. However, you hate to be deprived of access to this beach because of a single person's whims. So we made the effort anyway. Actually public access to the beach is currently being contested in the courts, I am intrigued if the will of a single rich person will trump the will of the public. Posted by Hello

Oh by the way, the massive resort house (on the left) he built that overlooks the bay is for sale at a steal for $46,500,000. After your down payment of $9,300,000 you can secure a 30 year loan at 6% so your monthly mortage payments would only be $223,032.79.

One of the nice surprises today was seeing two monk seals sunning on the beach. It is always a great surprise to see these opulent beasts, and I am constantly amazed how quiet they are. Once last month, Etel, Max and I were searching for shells on a secluded beach when I heard this heavy sigh only to look up and see a massive seal that had slipped up on shore right next to us. Max loves these guys and will just sit in the sand and watch them all day. Posted by Hello

I guess after a while it got too hot for the seals on the sand since they rolled down into the water to cool off.  Posted by Hello
