One of the nice surprises today was seeing two monk seals sunning on the beach. It is always a great surprise to see these opulent beasts, and I am constantly amazed how quiet they are. Once last month, Etel, Max and I were searching for shells on a secluded beach when I heard this heavy sigh only to look up and see a massive seal that had slipped up on shore right next to us. Max loves these guys and will just sit in the sand and watch them all day.

I enjoyed your photos and comments. This one reminded me of the time I was on the West Coast with a group and we spotted what everyone but me thought were logs along the beachfront. I was determined that they were not logs and had to watch for 20 minutes till I saw one move, at which time I hiked down and got some great photos of the seals!
