2:47 PM. We drove to the south shore near Shipwreck beach to look at the lithified sand dunes. This is a striking portion of shoreline in that the rocks are white instead of the typical black lava rocks near shore. Sand dunes from the last ice age have been cemented to form this very soft sandstone which then gets carved by the strong sea winds.
