7:11 pm. We start along the trail on the Na Pali coast. As you may recall I have hiked this trail on a number of occassions, most recently last week on my failed night hike. This is the 11 mile trail that ends at Kalau Valley beach, shown in the first picture of today's expedition. The shear Na Pali coastline was created when a huge chunk of the island broke off and sank into the sea. It happened like 100,000 years ago or so. The geologist are still working out the details. Anyway, the break off combined with the erosion by rain and sea over 100,000 years has created one of the most beautful landscapes on earth. (Look at the pictures from my Kalalau valley hike to appreciate what I am saying).
